The boys and girls in 6th class traveled to the White River with 5th class and the inland fisheries. They were shown a variety of aquatic insects and fish that live in the local environment. They discussed the different characteristics of insects like the stone fly and the may fly or fish like salmon or trout. Using a key, they identified these species.
We went to see Matilda in the Bord Gais Energy Theatre. It was absolutely brilliant and we loved every moment of it. We wish we could go again.
For 6 weeks the children participated in a fun and exciting workshop on Samba music. they learned all about Carnival in Brazil and the history and culture behind Samba music. On the last day they had a concert for the school and the parents displaying their Samba music abilities.
6th and 5th sang together for the Christmas concert on Wednesday 20th December. They performed a selection of Christmas hits, a tribute to Christmas at the movies and the beautiful song Christmas time in Ireland. It was an amazing night and everyone was so proud of all the effort and hard work the children had put in.
We created Christmas lanterns using crepe paper and card. We cut the image of a candle in the card three times and then glued crepe paper over the image. We folded the card into a triangular prism. We can't wait to place a light inside and display them at home at Christmas time.
In November, we took the first steps this year towards our Confirmation. We celebrated our Ceremony of Light in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Tenure on Tuesday 28th November. It was a wonderful occasion, full of hope, light and love.
we created animal masterpieces. We using our drawing skills to graph and complete a photograph. Then using only primary colours we mixed our paints to match the colours in the photo. The results were spectacular and we're so proud.
We learned all about the Native Americans in history. We created tribal prints inspired by Native American petroglyphs. We also constructed a class totem pole taking inspirational from the various totem poles still found in America toady.
We created etched name paintings. We used oil pastels to colour a page and painted over it with black acrylic paint. Once the paint had dried we carved our name into it using craft matches. We used a variety of patterns and designs to decorate our names.
Welcome back 6th Class. 6th Class are back after a long summer break and they're ready for the big changes the coming year is going to bring. There is a lot of hard work ahead of them but a lot of fun and exciting times too.
